People accumulate a lifetime of travel and have nowhere coherent to keep it. Scratch-map apps give you a coloured map and a count but no sense of when or how often. Photo libraries hold the memories but can't tell you how many days you spent in Japan. Planning tools expire the moment a trip ends.
Burgundy is the record rather than the plan. It gets more valuable the longer you keep it, because every trip you add makes the map fuller and the numbers bigger.
What it does
- •Countries and trips together: Every country you record belongs to a dated trip, which is what makes the rest of it possible.
- •A world map that fills in: Shaded by how long you were somewhere — with your routes and photos on it, and home marked apart.
- •A year-by-year timeline: Trips grouped by year, with a heatmap showing when you were away.
- •Stats you never enter: Countries, days travelled, trips, continents, first and last visit — all derived from your trips.
- •A daily journal: Notes for one day, a stretch of days, or a whole trip. Plus cities, companions, photos and tags.
- •A head start on your history: Import your Google Timeline instead of typing years of travel by hand.
- •Offline on your phone: Add a trip with no signal; it syncs when you are back.
What it isn't
Being clear about this now is easier than finding out later. Burgundy is not:
- •a trip planner — you can date a trip in the future, but the product is built for looking back
- •a social network — no feed, no followers, no sharing
- •a photo library — a trip can carry a few photographs, but your camera roll stays where it is
Where it runs
Burgundy is built for the phone first — an iOS and Android app that works with no connection and syncs when it finds one — with a web app on the same account for when you want a bigger screen.
